Saudi Arabia Implements Skill Verification Program in Sri Lanka, Updates Skill Requirements for International Workers

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD) in Saudi Arabia has announced a significant alteration to the skill prerequisites for certain international workers. The introduction of the Skill Verification Program (SVP) in Sri Lanka marks a notable expansion of this initiative, covering five out of the 23 targeted professional specializations.

The designated areas of expertise for which the SVP is now applicable in Sri Lanka include plumbing, electricity, automotive electricity, automotive mechanics, and refrigeration and air conditioning.

This move to extend the SVP to Sri Lanka is part of the HRSD’s broader international outreach strategy, following successful implementations in other countries such as Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. The core aim of the program is to authenticate the skill levels of workers, thereby enhancing the overall quality of professional services, boosting productivity, and mitigating the entry of unqualified labor into the Saudi Arabian job market.

The HRSD has outlined comprehensive guidelines for obtaining the SVP certificate. This process encompasses registering on the dedicated SVP portal, scheduling both theoretical and practical tests, and coordinating details with test supervisors prior to the examination.

Upon successful completion of the evaluation process, qualified professional workers are awarded the SVP certificate. This certificate holds significance as an additional requirement throughout the recruitment process for relevant positions.

The Skill Verification Program operates as a vital component of the larger “Professional Accreditation System.” This system is geared towards the regulation of the job market and the enhancement of workforce quality, in alignment with Saudi Arabia’s labor market strategy. This strategic move is set to foster a more skilled and competent workforce, ultimately contributing to the nation’s economic growth and development.
