So you thought that Missed Calls were only meant for Marketing ? For those in the know the Missed Call is probably the most innovative lead generation tool in a marketers toolkit in India.

It is unique to our country because it costs nothing to the person making the call and has become entrenched in our culture (think hard if you have a friend who does this especially if you are in college). A person gives a missed call to receive an automated or manual response / offer from the company which owns the Number to be called. Companies are using this to great advantage in launching coupon schemes,

So you ask – how can this help me in my recruitment ?

For sourcing candidates for entry level and bottom of the pyramid positions (Sales, Retail, Plumbers, Electricians etc) this can be a very useful mechanism.

At Select Jobs we ran a campaign 2 weeks back where we distributed 5,000 “Call To Action” cards. These cards are visiting card sized and list active jobs inviting the reader to give a missed call to register with our database and to receive jobs by SMS.

We carried out this campaign during the Ganeshotsav in Mumbai and has yielded 1,700 missed calls. The jobs we had listed in this campaign were for Delivery Boys and Retail Associates with large sized companies offering minimum-wage salaries. The company brand and this innovative campaign allowed us to attract large number candidates for their interviews where normally less than 5 candidates were walking in on a daily basis. The companies could fill up the positions
where previously they were struggling.

Just goes to show – our unique issues in India need to be solved using our unique solutions. Next step for us at Select Jobs is to figure out a way to automatically capture more details about the candidate using a voice-recognition based IVR – although in a local language.
